This is an interesting hat.  As a net, it might filter out  a few rays but is certainly not a UV blocker.  But it is a very interesting conversation piece. 

It is made from hand made sisal cordage at Yatta South Women's group.  This group of women were established as a cooperatvie many years ago and have continued to collect sisal fiber, hand make the cordage by twisting the fibers on their thighs, then dying or keeping natural color as in this hat and weaving the sisal cordage into a variety of items. 

This sisal net hat measures 21" in cirdumference and has a full 5" rim.   The rim can be shaped to outstretch straight, or fold up like a cowboy hat - simply moisten and shape.
